Dorothy Ellen Thatcher, born on October 11, 1925, in Los Angeles, California, passed away on January 29, 2026, in Santa Monica, California. She resided in Santa Monica for nearly her entire life, where she became a cherished member of the community.

Dorothy devoted her career to education as a sixth-grade school teacher, primarily serving students in Santa Monica and Malibu. She was deeply committed to her students and took great pride in helping shape young minds. She attended UCLA and furthered her studies abroad in Florence, Italy, where she pursued post-graduate education in Art History and multiple Languages.

She was an active member of the Assistance League of Santa Monica. She made a lasting impact by initiating a scholarship program and faithfully maintaining it until recent years. Her dedication to education and service reflected her generous and compassionate spirit.

Dorothy had a love for travel, art, and the outdoors. She enjoyed camping and fishing, and her curiosity about the world enriched her life and the lives of those around her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Robert Thatcher.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Joyce Young; her niece, Gena Lasko; and her grandniece, Denali Lasko.

She will be remembered for her lifelong dedication to education, her generosity, and her love of learning and adventure. Her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
