Obituary

Hannah Rae King, better known to her family as "Dr. Cat Gandalf, PhD", "Feta", or "Henry", aged 32, shuffled off this mortal coil at her home in Los Angeles on November 26, 2024. She was born May 22, 1992 in Milton, Florida to Christie and Howard King, and spent her childhood in Crestview, Florida, graduating from Crestview High School in 2010. She was a proud member of the BRM (Big Red Machine) where she played the flute and piccolo.

After graduating, she went on to attend Florida State University where she received an AA in something, a BS in Applied Economics and English Literature, an MS in Urban and Regional Planning, and an MS in Geographic Information Systems. She was just so much smarter than the rest of us. Wanting to leave the Redneck Riviera, she then set her sights on the city that is the hub of transportation, Los Angeles, where she began working on her PhD in Urban & Regional Planning at UCLA. She loved the big city and its peoples, transportation research, and arguing with her mother about the benefits of paid parking but had recently discovered the joy and fulfillment of teaching and mentoring newbies to the field.

Hannah was the best of people. She loved cats, bears, and trains, her family, her friends, her students and colleagues and, a really bad pun...but mainly her cats. Unfortunately, the thought of eating another Thanksgiving casserole was just too much for her to take this year and so, without her characteristic meticulous pre-trip planning, Hannah caught the last train to her final destination, "A Better Place" where she was greeted by her beloved cat, Thomas, and her grandparents, Agnes and Medford King, and Dorothy and Norm Rathje.

She leaves to mourn her loss, and the loss of her internet passwords, her parents; her sisters, Rebecca (Matt) Sulack, Sarah (Cory) McSween, and Rachel King (Alan Ewerds); her nephew, Rheis Sulack, and her nieces, Jayma and Ella McSween; her best friend, Tam Guy; aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as numerous friends, mentors, colleagues, and students all over the U.S.; and her precious cat, Asia Sinatra. You left us way too soon, Hannah. A Celebration of Life service is planned for the springtime; her ashes to be interred at Glendale Memorial Nature Preserve in Defuniak Springs, Florida. The family wishes to thank everyone everywhere for their thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
